What I'm (NOT) Lovin'

Yes, there are a few things that I'm NOT lovin' these days.

The cold, cold weather.  Although, I know it could be worse, it is Cold with a capital C where we live right now.  It is 9 degrees with the wind chill.  That is brrrrr freezing.  It even snowed here on Friday, not a whole lot.   But you would think we had a blizzard based on the traffic jams and media who of course blows (pun intended) it wayyyy out of proportion.  I am sure there are many other cities that just laugh at us slippin and slidin around the roads when it was barely a dusting of snow.

While on the subject of snow.  Did you happen to see this floating around a couple weeks ago.  I'm not much of a Star Wars fan (actually not a fan at all.  Can we still be friends?) but these Star Wars snowflakes are pretty freakin awesome.

Even though not a fan at all. This one is my favorite.

I'm also NOT lovin' the holiday season much this year (so far anyways).  Not to be Scrooge or anything but in light of two family members passing away in the past 6 months, it is hard to get into the spirit.  I have a hard time normally around the holidays being away from so much of my family but this year I feel like it is going to be even more challenging.

We went and got our Christmas tree today. We decorated the tree but that is far as it got.  Didn't do much other decorating at this point.  Not sure I will.   But I am going to try for my children's sake to shake it off (the Scrooge attitude), like I normally do, but it is hard feeling like you are living a facade sometimes, you know? Do you ever feel like that?  I find myself whistling the song "Put On A Happy Face" as I am putting on that fake, plastic looking grin. It has to be noticeable, right?

I'm NOT lovin' dry skin.  Another winter malady.  Fun.  My skin is so dry.  I have to put lotion on my skin all the time.  And I have used so many different types of lotions over the years and it doesn't seem it is ever the right one.  Any suggestions of what you use and helps make the dry, flaky, cracked skin go away?

This is what my skin looks like most of the time.

Since this has been just a dreadful post, I will add something that I am lovin'...my son, Tyler, went this Winter Formal last night.  Isn't he handsome? I thought so too!

Until next time....

Friday Finds

I have a confession.

Pinterest is keeping me up at night.  I lay there and think about all the endless possibilities you can find on that one site.  So,so many things.

And so instead of continuing to lay there in the middle of the night, I get up and pin.  Ok, maybe I don't pin everything I see but I look at a lot of pins.

I am pin-obsessed.

I drool over all the awesome recipes. Saying, "One day, I am going to try this" and then that one day comes and goes.

I ohhh and ahhhhh over the cutest craft ideas (that I will probably never ever make; I don't have but maybe a small crafty bone in my body; my pinky) but it is still a nice thought that someday.

Someday I will be organized enough with my small children and they will be truly interested enough to do an actual craft (from beginning to end) that was something other than finger paint all over my table.  Or Q-tips strewn from one side of the house to another (yeah that was last night) AND we weren't even doing a craft, if that tells you something.

But anyways, yes, I like Pinterest as do many million others.  I hear it is the second fastest growing social media site.  Who would have thunk?  I sure didn't when it was first released.  BUT I jumped on it quick though because EVERYONE was doing it and I am a follower you know (ha!).

Here are some recent Pinterest finds that I am going to do (or not) but I like them never the less.

With the Superbowl coming up quickly I thought this might
be a healthier alternative to the normal chip and dip fare.

I really am going to do this sometime this weekend.
This is such a better alternative to crackers or chips.
And I love chickpeas!

I am dreaming of spring flowers

This would look great in my kitchen windowsill.

A little bit country.

And my garden.  I can't wait.
I am going to start my herbs
earlier this year and then transplant.

I have the perfect place for something like this to hang.

Perspective

Gift of Love
By Ashes Remain

What's the season all about
When all we do is run around
Living for ourselves
Leaving mercy on the shelf
Walking by a homeless man
Who is holding out his empty hand

Doesn't anybody care
Does he even have a prayer

When will we realize and open our eyes

Salvation came to earth
Let us celebrate the birth
Make ourselves the offering
Meet the broken in the streets
The gift that came alive
To take the blame and die
For a world that lives in fear
Let us give the gift of love this year

What's the season all about
With everybody running around
Let's forget about ourselves
Take mercy off the shelf

Thanksgiving Funnies

Is your bird in?

I just finished putting
ours in the oven for
a long warm nap.

Ulterior motives.

So that's why they serve minced pie and fruit cake.

Isn't that the truth.
Now grant it we don't need to eat like this everyday
but rather be thankful EVERYDAY.

From our house to yours, we hope you have a
Happy Thanksgiving shared with your loved ones.

Easter Fun

My last couple blog posts have been a bit on the "heavy" side.  Therefore I wanted to share the softer side.  My two youngest children.  They make me melt in an instant.  Even in their most cantankerous (I love that word) moments.

Here are a few pictures from Easter this past weekend.

Thank you Easter Bunny.

You don't have to search far to find the eggs at this Easter Egg Hunt.

Baskets full of eggs.

The loot.

Peep Peep

I broke down.  It was just to cute and easy to pass up.  I am sure you have seen this floating around the Internet the last couple weeks with Easter being yesterday and all.

Did you have a good Easter?  Good.  We did as well.  We went to Easter Church service which was fabulous!  I will post some pictures soon.  It was also beautiful in our neck of the woods.  I think it hit almost 60.   We opened up most of our windows in the house to get fresh air flowing and played outside for most of the day.  For dinner we had 5 Cheese Lasagna, Salad and Garlic Bread.

GOD is good.

Here is what we had for dessert

I.Am.So.Tired.

And I am sure I am not the only one.  I think 4th of July should only fall on a Saturday every year.  LOL!

And I didn't even do a whole lot last night other than stay up later than usual. (True sign of getting old).  After spending the afternoon with family at a BBQ, we went home for a while before we were going to head out to watch fireworks not far from our house.  But Miss K had other plans.  She was *dog* tired after a day of playing outside and in the pool.  She crashed and she crashed hard.  There was no waking her.  Not even the neighborhood fireworks stirred her.  Now the cat on the other hand.  She was freaking out racing through the house every time she heard a bang.  I thought she was going to crawl up my leg at one point.

Needless to say, I didn't go watch fireworks.  Daddy and Hayden went down to the lake by our house that has a big fireworks show every year and watched them.  Apparently, they found a good spot without all the congestion.  When we drove down there earlier in the day to scope out a spot, there was literally, a couple thousand people, I am certain.  They had a blast (no pun intended) and Hayden was *uber* excited when he got home to tell me about the the "Bangs that broke in the sky".

Kyleigh ended up coming over and we watched Just Go With It.  The one with Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler.  It was alright.  I like Jennifer Aniston but Adam Sandler just doesn't do it for me these days (not that he ever did).  Most of  his roles are the same.  And now that he is a bit *older* his antics are getting worn.

What did you do to celebrate the 4th of July?

Have a great week!
