Insatiable Appetite

My husband has an insatiable appetite for any and every t-shirt. Sports t-shirts (Trailblazers, Oregon Ducks, Seattle Seahawks), concert t-shirts , souvenir t-shirts (from the beach or wherever we have visited).   He really does have an addiction.  Is there a t-shirt anonymous by chance?  "Hi, my name is Neil and I can't control myself when it comes to buying t-shirts."  Not to make light of addictions but it has become an issue in our household.

I am being serious here, he really does have A LOT of t-shirts
(50+ if I had to guess).  How can one possibly ever wear that many
t-shirts? AND... I just realized that his younger brother is the same way.  It must run in the family.  Hopefully, this trait doesn't pass down to Hayden otherwise we are going to run out of closet space...FAST!

He is however getting a "tad" bit better.  He actually purchased a
t-shirt that was on sale last week but felt so guility he took it back within minutes of purchasing it.  The clerk looked at him with a puzzeled look and said, "You just bought this", his head hanging low replies, "I know".  It took a few years but I think  he finally gets it.  Although, I think more of the reason why he took it back was because of the "Purchasing Hiatus" we put everyone on in our family for the month of November and December.  More about that in another post...

Here is a t-shirt I would buy for him....LOL

Ooops, I Did It Again

I did another successful 20/20/20/20 grocery trip.  I spent $83.61 on groceries for the week for a family of 6 (sometimes 7 when Kyleigh’s boyfriend eats with us).  This week I had barely any coupons too so I was uber excited to see my total.  I made sure pretty much everything I purchased was on sale and as always produce all under $1.00lb.

I shopped at our local Safeway and here are the meals that I will be making this week so you can see not really skimping on much.

Sunday:

Pan Seared Pork Chops (bought the large extreme pack because the price per lb is considerably less; have a few left over to use for another dinner)
Garlic Penne Pasta
Green Salad

Monday:

Chili and Cornbread (I have cheese left over from last week that is still good so will use that to sprinkle some yummy cheese on the chili)  And sour cream!  Can't forget the sour cream....

Tuesday:

Grilled Cheese
Tomatoe Soup

Wednesday:

Breakfast for Dinner

Thursday:

Pork Chops in Mushroom Sauce (left over chops from big package)
Brown Rice
Green Beans

Friday:

Ham & Cheese Panini (made with my George Forman grill)
Pasta Salad

Saturday:

Crockpot Beef Stew
Biscuits

It’s like a game to me now, going grocery shopping.  Always trying to out save myself from previous week.  Grocery shopping is starting to become fun.  Did I just say that?

Cheers to shopping and saving money!

Sorry, I couldn't resist...LOL

KARMA

Karma...

Do you know her?  We know her well in our house.  Our highly energetic 3 yr old and “Karma” are BFF’s these days.  It seems like every time we tell him not to do something, of course we know this is for his own good, “Karma” bites him in the butt.

For example just as quickly as he is jumping off the deck in the backyard and I tell him “You are going to hurt yourself”, what happens, he hurts himself…"Karma".

He is twirling around in the living room, getting really close to the baby swing  (no baby in it) and I tell him, “You are going to run into the baby swing”, BAM!  “Karma”.

The other evening when I was singing “5 Little Monkeys Jumping On The Bed” to him, when we got to the last monkey and the Dr says, “That is what you get for jumping on the bed” he looks at me and asks, “What did the Dr say again?”, so I repeated, “That is what you get for jumping on the bed,” and he says, “Karma”.

Yep, he gets it.

Now if only he would listen when we tell him not to do something...Kids will be kids, I guess.  They some times have to learn the hard way.

Mixed Feelings

The Christian Science Monitor
Article By Trevor Hunnicutt, Associated Press / November 3, 2010

“San Francisco's Board of Supervisors voted 8-3 on Tuesday to approve an ordinance that would limit toy giveaways in fast food children's meals that have excessive calories, sodium and fat. It also requires servings of fruits or vegetables with each meal. “ (http://www.csmonitor.com/Business)

I have mixed feelings about this.

First off, I find it odd that out of all cities in California, it was San Francisco, that enacted this ban given their demographics.  As of the 2000 Census, the child population (ages 0-9) is approximately 8% of the total population.  Just a drop in the bucket comparatively speaking.  With that being said, is this really going to be much of an impact on childhood obesity?  Banning it in one city is not going to make a difference in my opinion.

I have mixed feelings about this.

I would have to agree with McDonalds representatives with regard to government is taking away the rights of parents to choose what they allow their children to eat or for the kids to choose what they eat for that matter.  Not that I am saying it is ok to have your 3 year old eat Happy Meals everyday for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  I am one of the parents that allow my children an occasional Happy Meal.  Does that mean my child is going to be obese because he has a Happy Meal every now and again?  Moderation is the key to most everything.

I have mixed feelings about this.

I think a big part of the problem with childhood obesity are the lunches that are (sometimes) being served at school and taking physical education out of the curriculum.  How about better funding for lunch programs and putting Physical Education back into schools.   The money they spent on this ban could have gone to several schools to hire a PE teacher or could have went to funding of a school garden for the kids to grow their own produce to be used in lunches or healthy cooking classes for low income families....That would be a novel idea.  Maybe then we can combat obesity on a higher level.

Ok, I will get off my soapbox now.
