In My Toe!

Said the slightly overweight mother of 4 to her Dr when he asked how much she weighed after high school and said, "There is no reason why you can't weigh that again!"  Ha!  That's funny.

I weighed 119 lbs when I graduated high school  (many moons ago).  I am 5'6''.

I come from a long line of a bit bigger boned families.  Even at 119lb I don't think I was considered petite by any means.  I was athletic so I probably even looked like I weighed more.  Now at my age, after birthing 4 children, there is no way on this green earth that I would ever be able to get down to that weight again.  I don't mean to be Debbie downer but want to be realistic and definitely do not want to set myself up for failure.  I honestly think I would look very unhealthy at that weight given the changes that my body has done over the years.

But I do know I need to work on my weight.  I have been struggling with my weight this past year, more so than I ever have.  I have a few things working against me though i.e. PPD, hypothyroidism which make this battle even more frustrating!

I don't eat too terribly bad.  If you have read my blog long enough you see alot of my menu plans and recipes.  Yes, I like cheese but its not like I sit every night watching TV eating a block of cheese.  And pretend like you didn't see my recent post The Bite (s) of Oregon because I am sure I gained 10lbs just that day.

I think my main issue is just finding the time and getting motivated to exercise more.  You would think with all the running around after several small children that I do, that would do something.  But noooooooooo....

I feel like I am running a rat race everyday on the treadmill of life getting nowhere fast....

How do you get motivated and work exercise into your busy days?

Confessions Of A Non Superwoman #10

Wow, it has been a while since I have posted a confessional.  I am not sure why because I have had many less than steller moments over the last couple weeks.  Here are just a few...

1.  After several failed attempts, I finally cleaned up our office a tad bitWe can at least see the desk now.

2.  The pile of clothes that no longer fit the children is getting larger which means I am making some progress.  Now if only I can get motivated to bag them up and drop them off at Goodwill.

3.  I have been so absent minded lately.  For the third time this week, I took out juice to thaw but forgot that I had already taken some out, only for it to go sour since it had been sitting out in the heat too long.  3rd times the charm, I guess.

4.  Sunday night when I wanted to change my clothes without a 4 year old attached to my leg, I asked Hayden to go start brushing his teeth.  He decided he wanted to floss instead.

    5.  And last but not least, it is always good to select the right button on your toaster for whatever you are toasting.  In my morning fogginess, I apparently selected bagel when I was toasting an english muffin.  Needless to say it came out like a hockey puck.  Our smoke detectors work though.

Have any confessionals you want to share?  Come on, it feels great to share imperfections. We are all friends here, don't be shy!

    3.  Sunday when we got back from church, chaos insued as we were walking in the door.  Hayden decided to run ahead to the front door taking a rapid detour to the hose and subsequently spraying us all.  We all rushed into the house sans Hayden and had to quickly devise a plan to get back out to turn it off without getting even more drenched.  Ty ran around the back of our house, hopped the fence and did a sneak attack.  Hayden caught him out of the corner of his eye, drenching him even more but it gave me enough time to run back out the front door and turn off the water just before he turned the hose back on me.  I am sure our neighbors were just laughing hysterically.  We all looked like drowned rats, except for Hayden.

    Six Word Saturday

Are you ready for some FOOTBALL?

Ready or not tis the season.

It is youth football season for T and of course the NFL season is upon us.  And college ball too which is much more exciting these days than the NFL especially when our OREGON DUCKS play.

My husband and oldest son are big FANatics so there is no escaping it in our house.  And little man is not far behind, he likes to hang with the big boys.

If there is a game on and we are home, it is on.

Rather than fight it, I have learned to embrace it a little bit.

I'm out of here.  Off to T's Football Jamboree for most of the day.  Thankfully it is beautiful outside.

Do you want to join in with Six Word Saturday?  Describe what is going on in your life at the moment in 6 words and then link up with Cate over at Showmyface.com.  It is that simple!

Hope everyone has a wonderful Saturday!

    Jumping On The Bandwagon

I am jumping on the bandwagon.  I have seen tons of posts about The Help so I couldn't *help* myself and decided to do a post about it too!  I know how original, huh?

Anywho, Kyleigh and I went and saw The Help this past weekend and it was FABULOUS!  It was funny, dramatic, sad, inspiring, all in one.  And I just love Emma Stone!  She rocks.  Such a versatile actress.  (And I am apparently not the only that likes her.  Did you see Jim Carreys video to her?)

And we can't forget the other leading ladies. Viola Davis.  Octavia Spencer.  Bryce Dallas Howard and Jessica Chastain.    They are all just hilarious in several scenes.

If you haven't seen this movie and get a chance to, I highly recommend it. You will not be disappointed, I promise.  And you can even bring your spouse because I would not classify it as a *chick* flick.  There were several men in the theater when we saw it.

    Have a great weekend!

    The Bite (s) of Oregon

We went to The Bite Of Oregon a few weeks back which is a smorgasbord of restaurants that come together to benefit the local chapter of The Special Olympics.  They bring their *best* chefs and *best* appetizers, entrees, desserts, etc all to one gathering place for everyone to taste.

Unfortunately for our waistline, the bite became bites, as in plural.  There is so much good food!  A bite here, a bite there....

They have Live Music, An Iron Chef Competition, Cooking Demonstrations, Beer & Wine Garden, tons of vendors.

It is really a blast.  By the time we left we were fat & happy.

Here are some of the treats we enjoyed.

We started out with some Swiss Cheese Fondue (my favorite) from Gustav's.

Quickly moving onto Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Jalapenos from North 45.

From there we decided to partake in a some German Potato Salad and Prawns & Black Rice W/Curry.

Now onto the main courses....Steak Medallions over Sweet Potato Fries from Sylvan Steakhouse.

And a Yumm! Baby Bowl from Cafe Yumm.

And to top the evening off....

Hubby had some Beer Steamed Mussels from North 45 and I had Grilled Pita Bread with Hummus & Satziki from Big Fat Greek Souvlaki.

BTW, we did not consume all of this in one sitting.  This was consumed throughout a 7 hour period.

    Are you hungry yet?

    Miss.Fit.

That is the new knick name we have come up with for Kaylyn.

She has now entered that stage where she is asserting herself often and throws these little fits.

The first couple times they were cute.  We would stop whatever we were doing and watch her as she stomped her feet, plopped down on the ground and started kicking OR she would just start loudly vocalizing her displeasure of whatever it was she was not happy about.

Several times later, not so cute anymore.  They are coming fast and furious now. (Ok maybe they are still a tad bit cute).

What happened to our sweet little angel of a girl?

    She is growing horns.

    This week I feel......

    I.N.S.P.I.R.E.D!

We went to The Bite of Oregon on Saturday and had the chance to watch an Iron Chef Competion Live and to watch a couple cooking demonstrations by several locally renknowed chefs, eat tons of *awesome* food  AND....

See Celebrity Chef Bob Blumer from The Food Network do a cooking demo.  He was such a kick.  He shared with us one of his first live shows that he did where one of the audience members caught on fire during his cooking demo.  Little did he know that the audience member was a planted stunt person and the whole show he was being punked by the host.  He then donned a fire jacket and hat for a good portion of our show.

    See....

So since I have been I.N.S.P.I.R.E.D  I made one of the dishes he made Saturday in his demo as part of my menu plan for this week.  I made the Beef au Poivre Sunday night and it turned out FANTASTIC!

    Sunday

    Beef au Poivre
    Corn on the Cob
    Au Gratin Potatoes

    Monday

    Vegetable Fettuccine*
    Green Salad
    Garlic Bread

    Tuesday

    Creamy Chicken & Rice*
    Mixed Vegetables
    Cantaloupe

    Wednesday

    Beef Burgandy over Noodles*
    Green Beans
    Apple Sauce

    Thursday

    Mexican *Yummy* Bowl**

    Friday

    Tuna Melts
    Chips
    Carrots/Celery & Ranch

*These are part of my menu plan from e-mealz.
**This menu item was from an idea of a meal we ate at The Bite from a local restaurant.

Hey good lookin, watcha got cookin?

Hope you have a great week!

Back To School Shopping At Bealls

This post brought to you by Bealls. All opinions are 100% mine.

Another summer coming to a screeching halt and school days rapidly approaching.  Is it me or did summer fly by?  Just as quickly as we recovered from end of the year expenses, summer camps and birthdays now it is all about Back to School Shopping!

And if you are a mom of school age kids you know what that means.  The *dreaded* back to school clothes shopping.  Yes, dreaded as in, I would rather poke my eyes out with a needle than head to the mall with my pretween (he is 12).

Why can't they just wear last years clothes?

This year "T" has all these grand ideas of how he wants to *reinvent* himself and lots of the reinvention is conclusive of how he is going to dress.  All I hear are the cash registers ringing.  This is going to cost me a pretty penny I am sure.

Clothes are expensive!  Especially the *in* clothes.  He loves the skinny denim jeans and skater t-shirts this year just like most boys his age.  And can't forget the cargo shorts, those never seem to go out of style.  I just don't want to pay an arm and a leg for the clothes nor do I want to spend my time going from store to store at the mall (especially if I am toting the other two kiddos along).   I am sure you can sympathize?

That is why I have decided to do some of my shopping online!  I can shop at any time because the websites are open 24/7 .  In my pajamas at 2am in the morning.  Score!  I found this snazzy website that has brick and mortar stores in several states, just not Oregon, unfortunately, it is called Bealls.  Have you heard of it?

All the cool clothes for half the cost (or more).  And they are having some really great deals going on right now.  Free shipping on orders of $50.00 or more $10.00 off orders of $50.00 or more.

They also have lots of items for men, woman, household items, etc.  Check'em out.  I don't think you will be disappointed.

So hey, gotta run.  Got to get my shopping on!

    Toodles!

    Six Word Saturday

    Happy Saturday!

It is time for 6WS with Cate over at Showmyface.com.

I love Cate and you can too...all you have to do is describe your life at the moment in 6 words.  Make it happy, sad, serious, fun, whatever...and then link up.

Going to The Bite of Oregon!

I am so excited.  This is a tradition of ours.  We go every year and have gone every year for as long as I can remember.  And each year it gets better.  If that is possible.

    Fun. Food. Entertainment.

Cooking demos, Iron Chef Competition, Music!

This year Food Network Chef Bob Blumer will be there!

We are such *foodies* and our fluffiness can vouch for that.  We LOVE trying new food, new restaurants, etc.  And The Bite of Oregon brings TONS of restaurants to one place so you can essentially try a little bit from many restaurants without costing you an arm and a leg nor do you have to drive all over town.

PLUS most of the proceeds go to the local chapter of The Special Olympics!

I definetly will not be wearing my skinny jeans today.  Wait, I don't have skinny jeans!  Ha!  It's all good!

    Have a blessed day!

    It's Fair Time!

It's that time of year.  Country fair time.

Ohh the smells of hot dogs, cow manure, and sweaty people, I can hardly wait!

And...I'll have an order of Deep Fried Butter on a Stick with a side of clogged arteries and I will wash it down with a heart attack, please.

I am not on a diet or anything (although I probably should be) and I do like to munch on fair food when I am at the fair but Deep Fried Butter on a Stick?  Yuck! I can't believe people really eat this.  It apparently is a hot seller at the Iowa State County Fair.  It has been all over the news lately.  People are comparing it to french toast?  Really?

I will stick with my *sugar high* from Carmel Apples & Cotton Candy, thank you.

What is your favorite fair food?

Don't Worry, Be Happy--Life With PPD

Wouldn't it be great if life was like a Bobby McFerrin song? I am whistling the tune as I am typing this.....Don't Worry, Be Happy!

Now, if only it were that simple.

This is one of the most authentic posts I have done to date.  Although I am very real and honest on this blog probably more so than I should be at times, this happens to be about a struggle in my life that I have not wanted to share until now.  It's not that I don't trust you but rather for the longest time I was in denial and kept it to myself.  I kept "IT" from several people for that matter in my real world life.  I didn't want this blog to be about "IT" and I still don't.  I want this blog to remain upbeat, happy, humorous, empowering, encouraging, I could go on....Blogging about everything else has actually been quite therapeutic when it comes right down to it.  This is the one area of my life that I can essentially escape from "IT".

But as I have come to grips with "IT" I decided that perhaps with sharing my struggles here, in the blog world, to you, my loyal readers that maybe it will help someone else down the road recognize "IT", seek help for "IT", not be in denial and ashamed of "IT".

Sometimes it takes all the strength that I have to get out of bed in the morning.

Sometimes all I want to do is just be left alone.

Sometimes I get so overwhelmed by the simplest things.

Sometimes (more often than not) I can't sleep.

Sometimes nothing can make me happy.

    Sometimes I feel hopeless.

Sometimes I just get anxious at the drop of a hat.

Sometimes logical thinking flies right out the window (fast) and emotion takes hold with a vengeance.

Sometimes I cry inconsolably for no apparent reason.

Sometimes I can't focus on the smallest tasks.

Sometimes my mood is erratic.  High, highs, low, lows.

Sometimes I walk around in a daze.

    I have Postpartum Depression.

I am the face of PPD.  An average woman in her mid 30's who has birthed 4 children (although you can have PPD even if you only birthed one child or 11 children; it does not discriminate by number of births or age for that matter).  I had no issues after the birth of my first two children.  I had a case of the "Baby Blues" with the birth of my 3rd child and full blown PPD with my 4th.

I was ashamed for the longest time after being diagnosed with PPD.   I am not sure why though since I am in good company considering 8%-20% of all woman get it.  I think though for me personally I felt PPD was something that the *weak* get as stupid as that probably sounds.  I have always been on my game, a go getter, Type A, a year ago I was the first to say, "I got this!" and then THIS...PPD stopped me dead in my tracks.

I know many of you, my loyal readers, are pregnant or have recently given birth.  I want you to know some of the signs so you can be able to spot them before it goes too far.  There are so many woman that have "IT" but don't know it and/or don't seek help for it.  Seek help.  You are not alone. Talk about it.

I wish I had sooner rather than later.  I lost a good 6 months of my life that I can never get back.  I had Miss K in May 2010 but didn't go to Dr and get diagnosed with PPD until October 2010.  I suffered, my family suffered for almost 6 months.  Life was like a roller coaster but you could never get off the ride.

I have since been prescribed an anti depressant which at first I was a bit scared to take because of all the side effects but at this point everything has leveled out and the side effects are very minimal.  Also, do your homework on the different types of anti depressants and their side effects because unfortunately just like most medications, there are many.  I actually went through a few different medications before we found the right one for me.  And if you think medication is not the route you want to go, there are many other holistic options available to help treat PPD.  Again, do your homework and be your own health care advocate.  Only you know what is right for you.

In the end, as much as I am still not fully comfortable, airing my dirty laundry here in the blog world for every one to see, I decided if ONE person reads this, sees the signs, seeks help, then it will be worth it.

As I stated earlier in my post, although now that I am *out* I may or may not talk about this on occasion however I WILL NOT let PPD control me any longer.  Nor will I let it control the content of my blog.

    Spicy Chili Cheese Bake

I made this a few weeks back when it was "Cheese Week" in our house.

    Spicy Chili Cheese Bake

    Ingredients

2 Cans of Red Kidney Beans
    1 Can of Garbanzo Beans
    1 Can of Black Beans
1 Can of Tomato Sauce or Chopped Tomatoes with Onions & Green Chilies
    1 8-12 oz container/block of Cream Cheese
1 Cup of Shredded Cheese (or more if you like)
    1/2 Cup of Peppercionis
    1/2 Cup Sour Cream

    Directions

    1.  Preheat oven to 350 degrees
    2.  Pour drained beans into 13 x 9 casserole dish
    3.  Mix in tomotoe sauce or chopped tomotoes
    4. Cut chunks of cream cheese and spread into the bean/tomotoe mixture.
    5.  Mix your peppercionis into bean/tomotoes.

    6.  Heat for 15-20 mins until piping hot
    7.  Sprinkle your cheese over the top

    8.  Heat for another 5-10mins until cheese is melted.

    9.  Serve over tortillas chips & add a dollop of sour cream (or more depending on your liking)

    10.  Or you can put over a hot dog for a Chili Cheese Dog!

Don't forget the peppercionis though because that *makes* the spicy part of the chili and without them it's just plain ol'boring chili.

    Enjoy!

    What I'm Lovin'

Welcome to another edition of What I'm Lovin...just a quick post of things I'm Lovin these days....

    Without further ado...

    Go to fullsize image

Jason Bateman.  He is getting better with age.  Watched him on Family Ties growing up.  Have loved him in several of his recent movies.  Juno (although he was kinda slimy), Horrible Bosses (funny) and The Change Up (Hilarious yet a bit raunchy).

Skinny Cow Heavenly Crisp Candy Bars.  Yummy!  I bought some of these a few weeks ago.  To die for!  And only 110 calories.  Hit the spot for the sweet tooth I had at the moment.

    Milk Chocolate Flavor

I *loved* them so much I emailed them and they sent me a whole bunch of coupons for free product.  How awesome is that?

And last but not least I received my second box of 12-18 month fall/winter clothes ordered from ThredUp for Miss K.  Yep, that's right I know you are jealous.  I had some credits from some clothes that I swapped so it was no money out of my pocket.  Pretty cool, right?

Example thredUP Google Affiliate Network Skyscraper Advertisement

Have you joined them yet?  It's free.

What are you lovin these days?

**I am not affliated with Skinny Cow or ThredUP.  My opinion of Skinny Cow, is just that, my opinion.  I purchased items on my own dime however I did subsequently receive coupons for free product.  I am a member of ThredUP not an affiliate so I have no *vested* interest if you sign up or not.  It is your choice.

    Menu Plan Monday

It is my 3rd week doing the E-Mealz program but I am mixing it up a little bit.  I have used several of their meals/recipes the last couple weeks so this week I am incorporating back into my plan, a few of my own.

Do you need some inspiration?  Tired of the same ol'meals?  Then start hopping around and see what others have on their menu plan over at I'm An Organizing Junkie.

    Six Word Saturday

    What's that, eh?

It's a blog meme held by Cate over at Showmyface.com where we share with our readers life happenings in 6 words.  It can be something serious, something fun, a quote, you can share a picture, whatever you want.

Just DO IT and then link up.

CHANGE is like death.  It's inevitable.

Seasons change. People change.  Life changes.

Funny thing, I said something to this effect to a good friend of mine a few weeks ago when she was talking about all the changes that were taking place at her job with new technology, new processes, etc.  I told her you have to be flexible and always on your game because sometimes you just can't control  *it*.  You have to always be one step ahead so not to be left behind.

Now if only I would use my advice.  LOL.  A lot easier said than done.

    Have an AWESOME Saturday!

    Friday Inspiration

I was reminded of this quote below last night after watching Food Network's Chopped with Lance N from Camp of The Woods.

This episode, originally aired a few weeks ago, was such a true testament of the power of God and prayer.  Lance N. is a great example of a god loving man. He clearly showed his grace at the end of the episode.  If you missed it, I am sure they will replay it again and/or you might find it online somewhere.  Season 7, Episode 3.

    Have a beautiful day!

Out Of The Mouth Of Babes

As I am changing Kaylyn's dirty diaper Hayden pipes up:

Mommy, when you are old I will change your diaper.

Isn't that a bit presumptious?  Who said I was going to wear diapers when I get older?  Where did this kid get this? He has been watching too much tv.  It must be those Kardashians.  Kris Jenner has a leaking problem lately so she is now a spokesperson for Poise.

Ok, so I probably will wear diapers again one day so I guess it is best that we got this cleared up now when he is 4. I must admit that it has been in the back of my mind ever since I turned 30 (lol).

They always say be nice to your children because one day they will be taking care of you.  I better get on that; that being nice thing.

I can now rest assured that I will at least have a clean bum when I am senile and drooling in a retirement facility.  (Sorry that might come off as a bit insensitive; not all *older* people are senile and drool).

    Have a great day!

Have any funnys that your kids have said to you recently?

Save Some Money with Straight Talk 2

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Straight Talk for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

    Cha-Ching!  Money, Money, Money!

That is the sound of the cash register of all the *other* cellular providers that are costing you your first born each and every month.  And what do you get?  Not a whole lot these days.

    hook, line and sinker

Why not save yourself some heartache and switch to a true unlimited plan for $45.00 a month.  Unlimited voice, unlimited text, unlimited picture messages, unlimited web. OR they have a $30.00 plan with 1000 mins, 1000 text and 30mb of web data.   This sounds to me like it would be the perfect fit for my 12 year old.

    mom knows best

    And the devices, they ROCK!

They have reconditioned phones for as low as $10.00 (great for young users who often times tend to beat up their phone).  They also have the well known Smart Phones with touch screens,  BlueTooth capability, mp3, camera and voice navigation.  You name it, they have it!  They only use the trusted manufacturers such as LG, Motorola, Kyocera, Nokia and Samsung so no need to worry that you are purchasing some off brand.

    everything you need

And the best part for me....NO activation, NO credit check, NO contract termination BECAUSE there is no contract to sign.  NADA!  They make it simple. Save you time and money!

Ohh and did I mention their international long distance rates?  They offer great flexible prepaid calling services that allow you to call international from your cell phone, your home or your office.  With the Straight Talk 2 It is easy to keep in touch with friends and family.
